The United States Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency William W. Popp has pledged his unwavering support for the programs run by the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) during a recent engagement with UMSC leadership.
The ambassador made these remarks on Saturday March 28, 20025 at UMSC headquarter during a meeting aimed at strengthening ties between the U.S. and the Ugandan Muslim community, underscoring the commitment of the U.S. government to support initiatives that promote peace, education, and community development in Uganda.
Ambassador Popp emphasized the critical role that the UMSC plays in fostering unity and social cohesion within the broader Ugandan society.
He expressed the U.S. Embassy’s interest in empowering the council’s programs, particularly those focused on education, health, and poverty alleviation. These sectors, the ambassador noted, align closely with the U.S. government’s broader goals of supporting sustainable development and improving the well-being of marginalized communities in Uganda.
“Empowering communities through education and healthcare is central to our diplomatic mission,” The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council’s programs are making a tangible difference in the lives of many Ugandans, and we are committed to supporting these efforts to further strengthen our partnership.” Ambassador Popp said
The UMSC, as the central body representing Uganda’s Muslim community, has long been involved in various initiatives aimed at promoting sociol-economic development, peace-building, and interfaith dialogue.
Its educational programs, including schools and vocational training centers, have been instrumental in providing opportunities for youth and adults alike to improve their livelihoods.
Ambassador Popp’s promise to back UMSC initiatives is expected to pave the way for greater collaboration between the U.S. Embassy and the council.
This partnership is seen as a crucial step in addressing key issues such as access to quality education, health services, and economic empowerment for Uganda’s Muslim community and the nation at large.
The meeting also touched on the importance of interfaith cooperation, with both the U.S. and UMSC leaders expressing their commitment to promoting peace and unity across Uganda’s diverse communities.
With these promising steps, the collaboration between the U.S. and the UMSC is poised to contribute to the continued growth and prosperity of Uganda.
The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shabban Ramadan Mubajje, expressed his sincere gratitude to Ambassador Popp for his visit, thanking him for the promises made to support the Muslim community. He assured the Ambassador of the UMSC’s commitment to working together in close partnership, emphasizing that they would collaborate at all times to achieve shared goals.
