Two people were killed on Thursday morning in a fatal motor accident that occurred along Rubaga Road in Kampala.

This incident that occurred around 6:30 am left some eight passengers severely injured.

Police said the incident happened when a taxi registration number UAU 194T that was traveling from Masanafu crashed into a building along Rubaga Road.

“When it reached Sanyu Babies Home along the slope on Butikiro Road, its brakes failed, and the taxi driver crossed to Rubaga Road near Lukeman petrol station and crashed into a building, killing two people on the spot and several others critically injured,” police said.

Among the injured were school-going children from Victorious Nursery and Primary School in Mengo and other passengers; however, the taxi driver was among the dead.

“Government should make Butikiro Road a one-way route for only those coming from Kampala heading to Mengo onwards and not for those sloping on it to avoid such accidents,” Sozi, a resident, appealed.

Ssozii added that the accident victims had broken legs, arms, and limbs and were bleeding a lot; however, they were rushed to Mengo Hospital & Mulago Referral Hospital for medical attention.

SP Michael Kananura, the Public Relations Officer, Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, confirmed this incident and revealed that the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for post-mortem examination.

SP Kananura also reported that the Old Kampala Police Station has towed the vehicle’s wreckage for inspection as investigations get underway.

“We urge all motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, particularly in urban areas, and ensure their vehicles are well maintained to prevent such tragedies,’’ SP Kananura emphasized.
