Traffic Police Impounds over 900 Motorcycles in One Week for Various Offenses

The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has registered a total of 997 motorcycles impounded on various offenses for a period of one week.

SP Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson, said that, from October 31 to November 5, 2023, 402 people were registered to ride without driving licences.

While addressing the media on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Naguru Police Headquarters, Kananura said that 32 pedestrians have lost their lives in a period of one week, adding that the common causes of the accidents are riding without crash helmets and in dangerous mechanical conditions.

“Among the fatalities registered, 393 riders were arrested without crash helmets. 37 were riding on roads in dangerous mechanical condition, “said Kananura.

Kananura stated that the passengers on motorcycles were 19 people who were injured, and 72 of the riders were arrested for other offenses.

The police continue to call upon all members of the public to continue reporting traffic violations on the road.

The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety is continuing with operations to ensure safety on roads, especially on Boda-Bodas, targeting those riding without crash helmets, those riding without reflective jackets, and those having more than one passenger on a motorcycle.
