The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) of Uganda has sent all district and regional CID officers for a one-month refresher training at the Police Field Force Training Base in Kikandwa, Wakiso District in preparation for the 2026 general election.
The officers were flagged off on April 22, 2025 by the CID boss, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Tom Magambo, who expressed gratitude to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abas Byakagaba for approving the program.
According to Magambo a total of 384 officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate, Forensic Services, and K9 Unit will undergo a one-month skills enhancement and ideological orientation course.
He emphasized the importance of the refresher course as part of preparations for the 2026 general elections with an aim to enhance officers’ skills in criminal science, intelligence-led investigations, prosecution-focused case handling, and advanced techniques for complex crimes such as financial fraud and terrorism.
“The importance of the course is to help the officer to utilise the acquired skills and improving police service delivery,” Magambo said.
The training is also said to be aimed at equipping officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively contribute to national development programs such as the Parish Development Model, sub county policing model, and Emyooga, among others.
This training follows recent efforts to improve the investigative arm of the police, including the launch of a new Criminal Data Analysis Centre at CID headquarters in Kibuli, which enhances the force’s ability to track and analyse crime patterns using data-driven methods.
The one-month refresher training for CID officers is a comprehensive skills enhancement and ideological orientation program aimed at boosting investigative capacity, professionalism, and readiness for the 2026 general elections, with strong leadership support and alignment to national security priorities.
In attendance were senior officers including the Director of CID, AIGP Tom _Magambo, the Director of Human Resource Development, AIGP Moses Kafeero, and the Director of Forensic Services.
