Fred Kajjubi Lumbuye was a merchant of fake news on social media. What he has got has been coming for a long time. It is testament that there is nowhere to hide for elements of division and sectarianism.
Lumbuye had given himself licence over life and death. He was the key proponent of the false rumours of the death of the Kabaka of Buganda. Even though he was sick and recovering from long illness, Lumbuye insulted and made false accusations against the Buganda leadership.
His conspiracy theories always spread like wildfire and gave no chance to the accused to make a case for themselves. No one should wield such influence over a group of largely illiterate people with no means of verifying his allegations.
The freedom of speech specified in the constitution does not condone the abuse or infringement on the rights of others. Anyone trying to make that argument should now see what the people he accused falsely must have felt like.
This should be a warning to all other self-proclaimed social media messiahs. The law has no limit and no place is too far for justice to catch up to you.
