The Aswa Region Police Command Zone has been split into two zones, the Aswa North and Aswa South zones, in a bid to improve policing in the region. David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa Region Police Spokesperson, announced the split on August 1, 2023.

The Aswa Region Police Command Zone covers the districts of Kitgum, Lamwo, Pader, Agago, and Nwoya. The Aswa North zone will cover the districts of Kitgum and Lamwo, while the Aswa South zone will cover the districts of Pader, Agago, and Nwoya.

“The reorganisation was driven by a commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of policing in the region, the split would allow for better coordination of police operations and would make it easier for the police to respond to crime promptly,” Mudong said.

Mudong added that there will be two Assistant Commissioners of Police in charge of the new zones, one for the Aswa North zone and one for the Aswa South zone. He said that the reorganisation would take effect immediately.

The split of the Aswa Region Police Command Zone is the latest in a series of police reforms that have been implemented in Uganda in recent years. The reforms are aimed at improving the effectiveness of the police and making them more accountable to the public.

The split of the Aswa Region Police Command Zone is a positive step in this transformation. It will allow the police to better focus their resources on the districts in the region and improve the security of the people.
