Supreme Mufti Mubajje commends Parliament for passing Islamic Banking Bill

Supreme Mufti Sheikh Ramadan Shaban Mubajje has hailed Parliament for passing the bill to harmonise issues relating to Islamic Banking.

Mubajje was Wednesday addressing the Muslim faithfuls during Eid Al Adha prayers at Old Kampala Mosque.

Mufti Mubajje appreciated the Government for considering Islamic banking which he says will make it possible for muslims to borrow money and do investments to improve their livelihoods.

“We request the Government to provide us a way of poverty alleviation support programmes which are sharia compliant. As of now. We thank the Government for drafting Islamic banking, ” he said.

In its sitting on Tuesday June 27, 2023 chaired by Speaker Anita Among,
Parliament debated a bill to harmonise issues relating to Islamic Banking products, the Bills were passed to clear the way for the long awaited Islamic banking.

Speaker Among described the laws as an Eid-al-Adhuha gift for the Muslim community that has been longing for the introduction of Shariah-compliant banking products.
