SSPDF: South Sudan Militant Group Behind Attack on Ugandan-Bound Bus

The South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) have accused the National Salvation Front (NAS), a local militant group led by Gen. Thomas Cirilo Swaka, of attacking the Kampala-bound bus along the Juba-Nimule road.

Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, the SSPDF spokesperson on Wednesday 25, 2024, confirmed that the attack was carried out by Gen. Cirilo Swaka.

“The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, 24, 2024, involved gunfire from rebels linked to the National Salvation Front, which resulted in the death of a Ugandan and eight other passengers injured,” Koang stated.

He further said that among the wounded was a South Sudan National Security Service officer, and the casualties were estimated at 14 passengers. Some passengers were reportedly abducted by the gunmen.

The attackers were traced towards Lobonok Payam, Juba County, Central Equatorial State.

“In the last seven days our intelligence personnel detected unusual movements of armed elements within that area, and the joint security forces were in the process of preparing and launching a surprise attack on their hideout,” Koang added.

Koang further highlighted the regional threat being posed by the NAS militant group.
