The Speaker of Parliament Annet Anitah Among on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, directed the transfer of traffic police officer Abdallah Tumusiime to the Parliamentary Police Directorate in recognition of his bravery during a heavy downpour while controlling traffic.
Speaker Among said the decision aims to recognize and reward exemplary service within the police force, set a precedent for police officers who go above and beyond their duties, and encourage others to perform their duties diligently.
The move comes amid increasing scrutiny regarding the treatment of police officers by civilians and the need for community awareness and education on cooperation with law enforcement.
Abdallah Tusiime, the traffic officer stationed at the Mawanda Road-John Babiiha Road intersection, was seen in heavy rain last week while diligently directing traffic at City Oil Junction in Kamwokya, earning widespread praise for his work ethic and patriotism.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abbas Byakagaba, conveyed his appreciation, acknowledging the officer’s patriotic spirit and the high level of professionalism he exhibited.
“This officer has set an example for his colleagues and the country at large,” the statement read. “His positive attitude towards his duties will not only be recognized but also rewarded.” He said.
This action reflects a commitment to enhancing officers’ morale and community relations.
