The government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Works and Transport, has embarked on the construction and upgrade of the 97-kilometer Lusalira-Nkoge-Lumegerere road in Sembabule district.
A financing agreement, which was signed between the government and Citi Bank on Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in Kampala, was aimed at supporting the design and construction of the road.
During the event, Henry Ariganyira Musasizi, the State Minister for General Duties who was representing the Finance Minister, Matia Kasaija, exchanged agreement notes with Ebru Pakcan, the Chief Executive Officer of Citi Bank, and said that the road will boost the local trade and improve service delivery.
“The completion of this road will boost local trade and improve service delivery in the surrounding areas and the neighboring districts of Kyegegwa, Mubende, Gomba, and Bukomasimbi,’’ Musasizi said.
The Minister of Works and Transport, Gen Katumba Wamala, who witnessed the signing ceremony, announced that the project will receive additional support from the African Trade and Investment Development Insurance and the Development Bank of South Africa.
Gen Katumba further urged the contractors, M/S Technovia S.A and Technovia Angola, to collaborate closely with local communities and leaders to ensure successful execution of the project within the established timelines.
