The former Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Chief of Joint Staff, Maj. Gen. Leopold Kyanda, has reminded all men and women in uniform, including the UPDF, Police, and Prisons Service, to maintain a strong spiritual connection with God for the continuity and success of their earthly missions.
Maj. Gen. Kyanda made the statement while officiating at the Armed Forces Prayer Breakfast held on July 12, 2024, at the All-Saints Cathedral Church of the Resurrection in Bugolobi, Kampala.
In his remarks, Maj. Gen. Kyanda urged the men and women in uniform to be more like Angel Michael, a spiritual warrior who fought and overthrew the devil out of heaven.
“The work that we do as men and women in uniform does not start today but started that time. The purpose that they are telling us here is deeper because it was a warrior that went out and threw the devil out of heaven,” Maj. Gen. Kyanda said.
He called upon the officers to know who they are and their role and path, because the devil continues to fight against God despite the blessings he has bestowed upon his people.
“Know who you are, know your role and your path, and know what you can do. That is why you can go and defend your country, no matter the place. We should remember that we still have that connection with the angel. This is because of the presence of the holy spirit,” Maj. Gen. Kyanda emphasized.
Rev. Dr. Canon Rebecca Margret Nyegenye, the Provost of the All Saints Church Cathedral Nakasero, thanked the joint forces for the opportunity to interact and for setting aside time to worship, not only in times of urgency and critical need but also in times of joy.
“We are not here because there is a problem, but we are here as children of God. So, for that, we feel such immense joy,” Rev. Dr. Canon Nyegenye said.
She continued to commend the armed forces for their work and urged them to enjoy it with exceeding joy, like Christian soldiers going to war with courage and purpose, not as soldiers in this world but as soldiers of Christ.
Maj. Gen. Kyanda reiterated Rev. Dr. Canon Nyegenye’s message, urging the officers to live a purposeful life.
The prayer breakfast was attended by senior and junior officers from the UPDF, Uganda Police Service, and Uganda Prisons Service, as well as other distinguished guests.
