A total of six suspects have been arrested by the joint security operatives for allegedly being in possession of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Nabweru, Nansanna Municipality, in Wakiso District.

Police told journalists at the scene that the IEDs were to be used by the suspects to cause mayhem and chaos in the city on Monday, May 8, 2023.

ASP Luke Owoyesigire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, identified the suspects as Hamidu Ssekidde, Muhammad Kalyango, Abdul Katamba, Arafat Ssali, Emmanuel Asiimwe, and Hamidu Muyondi.

According to Maj. Kabona, the 1st Division UPDF Spokesperson, joint intelligence-led operations were conducted Monday morning following a tip-off regarding the matter.

“We have the ability as security officers in the UPDF, Police Force, and other sister agencies to make sure that elements are isolated, identified, and dealt with. We shall not allow anybody to destabilize our country. This calls for the general public to be extra vigilant and alert. Surprisingly, none of the people in the neighborhood or in the vicinity knew about these criminals,” said Major Kabona.
