Police in Kyankwanzi District have arrested five suspected cattle thieves who have been terrorizing the area.

SP Racheal Kawala, the Wamala regional police spokesperson, said on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, the suspects were found with the stolen animals in their possession.

She said the suspects had modified the interior of a Toyota Prado to create space to accommodate and transport the stolen animals.

“In the course of the operation, police also recovered a motor vehicle that the suspects were using in the commission of the offense,” Kawala said.

The suspects have been identified as Kagulire Farouk, Sebungye Ronald, Kenge Fred, Oneno Ssegawa Vincent, and Kalyango alias Younger.

A preliminary police report revealed that the suspects are known animal thieves who have been in and out of prison.

“Kagulire had just been released on June 25, 2024, from Masindi prison after serving three sentences. Kalyango jumped court bail on a case of cattle theft in Kiboga District,” SP Kawala noted.

Security operatives in the Wamala region have heightened operations to crack down on livestock theft.
