Ms Sumaya Uwiragiye who helped Saulite Anda a Latvian tourist seek justice after she was allegedly raped by a Ugandan pastor Joseph Collins Twahirwa is living in fear after noticing that different unknown men are following her.
According to Sumaya, unknown men have been following her and offering her large sums of money to convince the accuser to drop charges against the pastor.
“There is a man who first helped the lady report the matter at Jinja Road Police Station. On the day when NTV ran the story, he came to say the pastor is ready to pay me whatever money I want so as to convince my friend to drop the matter because it seems things are getting out of hand,” Ms Uwiragiye said in an interview.
She added that she told the man to call Anda and talk it out with her. However, since the arrest of Joseph Collins, Sumaya has noted that there are people who follow her movements and this has made her fear for her life because their intentions remain unknown.
“At about 1:00am one night as I was heading home from work I saw two motorcycles trailing me when I would slow down so would they and if I increased the speed so would they, I decided to branch off to a nearby petrol station and park,” she said.
Sumaya states that the same thing happened last week when she headed to the mobile money agent.
“When I was going to the mobile money kiosk, I saw two men watching me again and talking and one of the faces was familiar to the one who was trailing me. I got scared,” she said.
She also disclosed that while on the way home on Sunday, herself and the husband were attacked by unknown men at the gate of their home in Buziga.
“When we reached the gate two men started hitting the car from the back and one tried to open the passenger door but it was locked,” Sumaya stated.
According to Sumaya, after seeing Anda depressed and beaten, she sat down with her at café in Kampala and asked her what had happened and the victim said she had been raped by daddy Collins.
Sumaya was compelled to help Anda file a case at the Criminal Investigations Directorate Kibuli which saw Joseph Collins arraigned in Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s court in Kampala and charged with rape.
The Pastor is in prison until February 1st 2023 as investigations into the case continue.
