Police in Buikwe district are holding a Prison warder attached to Bugungu Government Prison for shooting two colleagues dead.

The suspect has been identified as Jacob Otim, 28 according to the Prison Spokesperson, Frank Baine.

Baine said that the suspect on Monday obtained a gun for general duties only to head to the Sentry and shot dead a wardress identified as Eunice Abwot.

He noted that on hearing gunshot, the second Sentry, Warder Namanya Edward came to establish the cause of shooting, unfortunately he was also shot by Otim.

“After shooting the two dead, Otim attempted to turn the gun on himself with intention to commit suicide but was subdued by other staff on duty and detained,” Baine said.

Police has since opened investigation into the cause of incident and have preferred charges of murder by shooting against him.

Abwot hails from Laroo Sub-County, Gulu District and Namanya Edward is from Rwamucucu Sub County, Rukiga District.
