Prison Officials Encouraged to Promote National Unity by Promoting the Fundamental Principles Of NRM

Richard Todwong the Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has advised Uganda Prison Officers to put their focus and efforts on channeling the Core Principles of the NRM in order to foster economic growth and National Unity.

He said that in order to achieve economic growth the core principles of patriotism, democracy, Pan_ Africanism and Socio-Economic transformation should be at the forefront of fostering national unity in the face of adversity.

Todwong made these remarks while delivering a lecture of opportunity on April 24, 2024, to senior Prison officers about the Government’s agenda for a modern strong economy.

“Our role as leaders is to pass on skills we attain to the ordinary people around us and encourage them to channel their efforts at initiatives that enhance productivity,” Todwong said.

He noted that leaders must always prioritize the empowerment of their communities for economic prosperity. Adding that, the NRM has made significant strides in restoring peace and security which have been important in facilitating economic recovery and progress.

“Peace is a prerequisite for development, the NRM inherited a nation in turmoil, marred by conflict and division, but through concerted efforts, we steered the country towards political stability, social cohesion, and economic prosperity, ” he noted.

He further advised the officers that in times of crisis, they should not leave room for divisions based on tribe or religion, they must work and stand together to safeguard the nation that has come from far.

“There is no tribe or religion when the nation is burning, please guard your country well,” Todwong advised.

This follows the refresher course the Uganda Prisons officers are attending on strategic leadership.
