President Yoweri Museveni has today April 3, 2025 arrived in Juba for an official visit aimed at deepening ties with South Sudan.
Responding to invite by President Salva Kiir Mayardit, Museveni’s visit underscores the strong relationship between the two neighboring nations and their shared commitment to regional stability and cooperation.
Upon arriving at Juba International Airport, President Museveni was warmly welcomed by South Sudan’s President, who emphasized the importance both countries place on this diplomatic engagement.
Shortly after his arrival, President Museveni expressed optimism about the upcoming discussions. “I have arrived in South Sudan at the invitation of His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit,” he said. “I look forward to our discussions, which aim to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation between our two nations.”
The visit is set to cover a broad range of issues, including trade, security, and regional peace initiatives. Uganda and South Sudan share a long history of collaboration, with Uganda playing a pivotal role in supporting South Sudan during its early years of independence in 2011. The two nations have also cooperated on matters such as cross-border trade and addressing security challenges in the region.
Uganda has historically been involved in mediating peace efforts in South Sudan, and President Museveni’s visit presents an opportunity to reinforce commitments to stability and conflict resolution.
Economic cooperation is another key agenda item and Uganda remains a vital trade partner of South Sudan, serving as a conduit for goods into the landlocked country. Infrastructure projects and joint efforts to boost regional integration under the East African Community framework are expected to also feature prominently in the talks.
