President Museveni Thursday encouraged people from Lango sub region to use the roads NRM Government has built to improve their lives rather than being spectators in the development process.

The President made the remarks while addressing over 2, 200 local leaders at Oyam Town Council in Oyam District as part of his countrywide wealth creation sensitisation drive.

He acknowledged the presence of all leaders right from local council level and urged them to mobilise people in the fight against household poverty.

“These engagements with political and technical leaders are important because they understand the people they lead and therefore know how to best disseminate the gospel of wealth creation,” said President Museveni

The President likened the role of local leaders in spreading the wealth creation gospel to parish priests.

“Three Popes have come to Uganda and only visited Gulu, Kasese and Kampala but religion has continued to grow everywhere because of the priests who never tire to preach the gospel,” he said, bringing the leaders to laughter.

He urged the local leaders to do the same for wealth creation.

The President acknowledged that all leaders have the same challenges but encouraged them to keep mobilizing people in the fight against household poverty.

He asked them to sensitise the people to maximise the opportunities that lie in commercial agriculture, industries, services and ICT.

He also tasked them to guide the people in this direction, helping them identify which sector to play in.

He emphasized the need to adopt the four-acre model of agriculture where each household must own an acre for fruits, another for food crops, one for animals, and also pastures.

The President revealed that Government is in the process of setting up industrial parks in several sub regions to encourage the youths start small-scale industries. In support of this initiative, it will create SACCOs in every district to make capital accessible for such activities, he said.

Lango sub region is the third region President Museveni has so far taken the wealth creation campaign. Tooro region was the maiden, followed by Bunyoro.
