The Minister of State for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Kyofatogabye Kabuye has announced that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will award 61 medals during the 39th NRM/NRA Victory Day Anniversary Celebrations, scheduled for January 26, 2025, at the National Teachers College Grounds in Mubende Town Council, Mubende District.

Minister Kabuye made the announcement on Wednesday January 22, 2025 while addressing the media at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala. He stated that the President will serve as the Chief Guest and will also be joined by various distinguished guests.

He extended an invitation to all Ugandans to join NRM in commemorating this significant day in the country’s history. He also announced that the 61 medals would be awarded to outstanding public servants who played a pivotal role in organizing the Non-Aligned Movement and G77+China summits held in Kampala in January 2024.

“As a country, we received accolades because of our meticulous approach to organizing these two global summits. Therefore, H.E. the President found it prudent to award medals to those who committed their extra time and brains to make these summits successful,’’ Kabuye said.

As part of the celebrations, the Office of the President, in partnership with Bazungu E.V – Eyesight for Uganda and the Prince Kimbugwe Foundation, organized an Eye Care Medical Camp from January 22 to 24, 2025, at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital. The initiative aims to provide free eye care services, including the distribution of up to 600 pairs of eyeglasses and free eye surgery for those in need.

Kabuye encouraged residents, particularly those in Greater Mubende, to take advantage of this opportunity for eye treatment during the designated days. This year’s liberation day will be celebrated under the theme “39 Years of NRM/A: Salutations to Those Who Re-sanctified Our Homeland.”
