The President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has postponed the meeting with the Kampala City traders, which was scheduled to take place on June 20, 2024, at the Kololo Independence ceremonial grounds in Kampala.
The postponement was revealed by the leaders of the Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) following a meeting with the President on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at State House, Entebbe.
“We have met with President Museveni, and we have discussed a range of issues affecting traders. He has postponed the meeting with traders to July 31, 2024,” Thadeus Musoke, the chairperson of KACITA, said.
According to Musoke, the postponement will enable both sides to do thorough research on the subject matter so that they can come up with a final resolution to end a long-standing dispute over the Uganda Revenue Authority’s (URA) Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution (EFRIS).
President Museveni first met the traders in a general meeting at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on May 7, 2024, where they raised concerns over the challenges they face as they carry out their businesses.
He, however, encouraged the traders to continue implementing the EFRIS system by using smartphones as they further research other issues such as the threshold tax and tax per kilogramme of clothes, among others.
