President Museveni Directs Official Burial for Minister Engola

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed that the fallen State Minister for Labour, Rt. Col. Charles Okello Engola, be accorded an official funeral.

Milly Babalanda, the minister in charge of the Presidency, confirmed the directive.

“H.E. the President has directed that the fallen State Minister for Labour, Hon. Col. Charles Okello Engola, be accorded an official funeral,” Babalanda confirmed.

She added that a full burial program would be communicated later and said that the government is with the Engola family in this very difficult time.

The late Engola was gunned down on the morning of Tuesday, 2nd May 2023, by his security detail, becoming the first minister to die this way.

Charles Okello Macodwongo Engola, born on October 12th 1958, in Oyam district, was a Ugandan politician and Colonel in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

By the time of his death, he was the State Minister for Labour, Employment, and Industrial Relations in the Ugandan cabinet.
