The territorial police in Kassanda have successfully located and recovered a one-month-old baby that went missing from her mother at the health centre during an immunisation visit.

Racheal Kawala, the police spokesperson for the Wamala region, said in a police statement released on October 19, 2023, that the baby went missing from her mother, Peace Kyarimpa, on October 10, 2023, around 5 p.m. during an immunisation visit.

“A report was filed, and an immediate search was initiated by police on the same day,” said Kawala.

Kawala revealed that basing on intelligence-led information, a suspect identified as Esseza Nankabirea, 19,  a resident of Kalamba Town Council, Kassanda District, was apprehended on October 18, 2023, at Waybridge, Mubende Municipality.

She noted that preliminary investigations point to Nankabirwa’s deceptive motives, involving a false claim of pregnancy she had told her boyfriend.

“We are pleased to announce that the child has already been reunited with her mother following a medical examination,” said Kawala.

The suspect is currently held at Kassanda Central Police Station pending further investigations.
