Uganda Police, through an intelligence-led operation, has arrested 11 suspected panga-welders that have been attacking residents in Nansana municipality, Wakiso district.
The arrests were done at Kiblocker in Nansana East IIA, Nansana East ward, Nansana municipality, in an operation that was prompted by public concerns and previous attacks on civilians in Nabweru South II cell.
According to the police statement, an intelligence-led operation was conducted on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at around 8 am.
The police have identified the suspects as Allan Ssembatya, a resident of Entebbe; Latif Madondo, a resident of Nabweru; Anorld Kawoya, a resident of Bump Ganda; Shakur Kaziba, Rugamba Nkurunziza, Leonard Kabandana, Evelyn Kabugo, and Shamira Namukasa, all residents of Nansana East IIA; Alili Amanya, a resident of Kyewamala; Rayan Kakooza, a resident of Kayunga in Wakiso; and Emmanuel Akizimana, a resident of Nansana West IIA.
The police said that they recovered some exhibits after conducting a search at the premises of Abed Fauzia and the room of her daughter Namukasa.
“A search was conducted at the premises of Abed Fauzia, a 62-year-old farmer and resident of Namayumba, in the room of her daughter, Namukasa Shamira, a 31-year-old resident of Nansana East IIA. The search yielded the following exhibits: six televisions of various sizes (63 inches, 53 inches, 43 inches, and three 32 inches; two pangas; three pairs of pliers; multiple screwdrivers; a sack of opium; hook metallic wire wrapped with Kavera; and other exhibits,” the police said.
However, the televisions recovered were recognized by the victims of a recent robbery in Nabweru South II, which connected the suspects to the crime.
The police will arraign the suspects in court when investigations are completed.
