The Directorate of Police Health Services has embarked on empowering youths in the country through the provision of health services under the Youth Friendly Day programme that will take place every Thursday at Nsambya Police Health Centre IV.
According to Commissioner of Police Dr. Byogero Olivia, in charge of administration and trainings, the services that will be offered on this day will include HIV counselling and testing, STI management, family planning, behaviour and behavioural change, discussions on sex and sexuality, career guidance, and youth empowerment initiatives focused on community health.
CP Byogero, who inaugurated the initiative, made the remarks during the launch of Youth Friendly on Friday, July 14, 2023, at Nsambya Police Health Centre IV.
According to Police, this initiative is part of the community policing approach and aims at involving the youth around the health centre in community work while providing them with career guidance and empowerment opportunities.
CP Byogero explained the major aim of the Youth Friendly Day, stating that it seeks to empower and support young individuals, foster well-being, and contribute to their personal and professional growth.
She also commended the youth for their participation in the launch and expressed gratitude for the efforts of the medical personnel who organised the event, adding that the day served as an open discussion platform for the youth and medical practitioners.
AIGP Dr. Moses Byaruhanga, is in charge of the Police Health Services Directorate. The Directorate is responsible for the treatment, prevention, and control of diseases for the purposes of promoting healthy lifestyles and behavior in the Police community.
It also extends its services to the surrounding communities through medical emergency response in partnership with other Directorates involved in rescue operations and the examination of victims and suspects who may require such evidence in the process of providing justice.
