The Uganda Police Force has introduced a new digital system to streamline the training of drivers in a bid to improve road safety. This was announced on Saturday, January 21,2023 the Acting Commissioner of Inspection of Vehicles (IOV) while meeting with the proprietors of driving schools in Uganda at the police headquarters in Naguru, in which he emphasized that the police will with immediate effect restructure the activities and operations of every driving school in Uganda.

SP Eng. Waiswa Patrick, the Acting Commissioner of IOV, informed the proprietors of driving schools about the new digital system that will monitor their work and how the officers at IOV inspect applicants from driving schools.

He added that the system will also monitor content being taught to trainees, number of trainees at every driving school, faculties used and their effectiveness, and then be able to give an exam to the applicants online or off-line.

However, Eng. Waiswa reminded participants that road safety lies in their hands.

“It’s our duty and responsibility to improve driving standards in the country. You are the one who trains the drivers. So, we have to sit together and find means of improving road safety, and we can only achieve that if you produce good drivers on the roads,” he said.

The efforts of Uganda police aimed at ensuring that everyone acquiring driving permits/License is trained by driving schools because the driving schools are the ones with the curriculum of driving from the government.
