Police in Katwe have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly defiling a 5-year-old girl in Kampala district.

Godwin Twinemasiko, a resident of Ndeeba, was apprehended by police on September 18, 2024. Preliminary reports indicate that the victim was defiled on September 13, 2024, while her mother, identified as Asiimwe, was at the market roasting maize in the evening.

Asiimwe recounted that she noticed her daughter limping and walking oddly on September 17, 2024. Initially, she thought her daughter had an infection, as the child had recently complained about discomfort. However, after calling her to bathe and removing her knickers, she discovered pus and blood oozing from her private parts, which left her in shock.

When questioned, the little girl initially refused to disclose what had happened. It was only after one of her aunts coaxed her that she revealed the truth about the defilement.

“My daughter took us to the toilet where this heinous crime happened and even told us that Twinemasiko coaxed her with money; however, after defiling her, he took away the money and threatened to kill her if she did not keep quiet,” Asiimwe disclosed.

Asiimwe also revealed that police at Katwe instructed her to bring medical forms to substantiate the claims about her daughter’s condition. She expressed concern that if she could not provide the necessary documentation, the suspect might be released, as she has not yet secured the funds to pay for the required medical results.

In an interview with journalists, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that Twinemasiko is currently in custody at Katwe police and faces charges of aggravated defilement.
