Police in Entebbe impounds Truck loading iron sheets from the Prime Minister’s Office

Police in Entebbe have cordoned off a home in Katabi town council on Monday, August 14, 2023, about 9:00 a.m. after discovering 215 iron sheets believed to be from the office of the Prime Minister were being hidden in the home.

According to local authorities, the suspects were in the process of repainting the iron sheets red and would later be loaded on a truck with registration number UAZ 305A.

“The neighbours do not know the owner of the home. It’s suspected that the owner of the house lives abroad. When the constructors saw the police, they disappeared from the scene.”

The police managed to arrest the truck driver, whom they identified as Geoffrey, and he is being detained at Entebbe police station for further investigation.

According to Luke Owoyesigire, some of the iron sheets were labeled ‘Roofings prime quality Aluzine pre-painted sheet UNBS certified Guage 28 (0.32mm) CCAZ85 class 2 coil No.0125-04-01-10 ROOFINGS. MILLS LIMITED 25TH JULY 2022. For the Office of the Prime Minister.

Police are actively seeking the homeowner, who is reportedly evading authorities.

This follows the arrest of six people, among them three ministers, who include the Minister for Karamoja, Mary Goretti Kitutu, the State Minister for Karamoja, Agnes Nandutu, and the State Minister for Finance, Amos Lugoloobi, for diverting the iron sheets meant for the vulnerable Karamajong.
