Police Caution Public About Scammers Posing as Pastors and Traditional Healers

Police Spokesperson (PS) Kituma Rusoke has issued a stern warning to the public about fraudsters who pose as religious pastors by day and traditional healers by night.

During a media briefing on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the police headquarters in Naguru, PS Rusoke revealed that many victims have lost substantial amounts of money and property to these fraudsters.

According to police investigations, these fraudulent healers run places of worship that double as traditional shrines. When victims realize they’ve been deceived, they frequently resort to making threats, including death threats.

“We have identified more than 15 prominent fraudsters involved in these activities, and our investigations are ongoing. Our intelligence team is thoroughly probing these cases,” Rusoke stated.

He urged the public to remain vigilant, warning that the suspects prey on individuals desperate for divine intervention. “They exploit people’s trust, taking valuable property, including land titles, under the false pretense of faith,” he added.

Rusoke confirmed that the police are actively working to identify and apprehend the suspects, but have withheld their names as investigations are ongoing. “We will make arrests and reveal the suspects at the appropriate time,” he assured.

The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals engaged in fraudulent activities.
