The territorial police at Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala managed to apprehend suspects involved in the theft of side mirrors and other motor vehicle parts in a coordinated intelligence operation.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer, Kampala Metropolitan, said that on September 21–22, 2023, the police responded swiftly to a wave of complaints on social media and through other official channels regarding vehicle vandalism within the central business.
According to Owoyesigyire, the suspects, who were caught red-handed in the act of stealing from both moving vehicles and those parked in Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) parking spots, were identified as Muhammed Ramathan, Kabalega Deus, Emron Lawrence, and Kazungu Enoch.
Owoyesigyire said that a significant number of stolen motor vehicle parts were recovered from the suspects during the operation.
“Further interrogation of the apprehended individuals led the police to the Kiseka area, where they discovered shops engaged in the illegal trade of stolen vehicle parts,” he said.
He added that the additional suspects who were arrested during this phase of the operation were identified as Mugabi Shakur, Lukwago Abdulkarim, Kabambwe Mark, Nyanzi Fred, and Wandera Fred.
The suspects are currently detained at Central Police Station Kampala, where they will undergo due process and will subsequently be brought before the courts of law to face charges related to their involvement in these criminal activities.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
