The Police Spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga, has said that the territorial police in the North West Nile region and Arua Central Police Station, in a joint operation, have raided criminal hubs in Arua city, arrested over 59 gang members, and impounded 15 motorcycles of the Ssenke model, including 12 numberless.

According to Enanga, these motorcycles were being used in ride-along attacks and robberies of pedestrians, women, businesspeople, civil servants, and other members of the community.

“The thugs would snatch smartphones, bags, wallets, and other valuables while on motorcycles, or stop and put victims at knifepoint and rob them,” Enanga said.

Enanga made these remarks in a statement released on April 2, 2024, during the weekly security presser at the police headquarters in Naguru.

Enanga stated that the task teams first conducted an intelligence-led operation at the end of last month in the criminal hubs of Ediofe Mission, Lumumba, and Oil ‘D’Arua Primary, among others.

He added that at the end of March, over 59 suspects were arrested, and 15 numberless motorcycles and sharp weapons like pangas and knives were recovered in two separate incidents carried out from various cells.

According to Enanga, such criminal gangs threaten the safety of everyone’s neighborhood through violent attacks and the use of narcotics to recruit young children into crime.

The police have urged the public to stay alert and vigilant and report any suspicious people or suspected activities in their communities.
