In 2010, Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa kidnapped himself and on re appearing he won the Member of Parliament seat by vote of sympathy.
The strategy to dig deep in the feelings of voters is being taken advantage of. This is at the cost of misleading masses and painting the government with a bad image.  Analysts call that cheap popularity.
A few days ago a few posts on facebook made rounds claiming that MS. Nalpongo Namwanga Lukia of Bwaise 1 Parish Woman Councilor to Kawempe Division Urban Council in Kampala claiming that she was abducted from her home in Kazo.  The facebook posts accuse state security for the missing of Lukia.
As expected the famous architect of self kidnaps Munyagwa MP of Kawempe South, is among the people making noise over the issue claiming she was among the first people to reach out to her only to find her missing.
The government wins over hearts; it does not kidnap its citizens. Whereas as people continue to accuse such bad acts on the state. The public must open its eyes to realize that people like Lukia are looking for fame to come out and win elections. In some other cases people are kidnapped by their money lenders and later blame it on government to protect their image at the cost of the soiling the state.
Meanwhile, the trend of bad mouthing using social media platform with all sorts of misleading masses about government is picking a new dimension. This hinders the public from seeing the actual opportunities that exist in government. Hence failure to search for the right information that would otherwise make them better people, better societies that benefit from government programs.
The trend of using misinformation, propaganda, and self-victimization tactics by the opposition is on the rise. As Ugandans, we should be able to identify these elements as opportunity seekers who do not deserve to be our leaders.
