The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), in a joint collaborative operation with the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC), have recovered a collection of weapons belonging to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Major Bilal Katamba, the Public Information Officer, UPDF Mountain Division Shujaa, revealed that the weapons were found on May 8, 2024, in Sector 3 near the Talia Bridge in North Kivu Province, in the Eastern DRC.

“During the intelligence-led operation conducted by the joint forces, one piece of 160mm mortar, two rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) launchers, one RPG shell, one submachine gun (SMG), seven rounds of PKM, and one round of SMGs were recovered,” Maj. Katamba said.

Maj. Katamba stated that the weapons are believed to have been hidden by the rebels, who escaped midway through last year when they were flashed out of Mwalika Valley by the joint forces and scattered northwest of Beni Komanda Road in Ituri province.

In a separate incident, Maj. Katamba reported that one ADF terrorist was put out of action and one SMG recovered on May 7, 2024, by the joint forces of Sector 2 led by Colonel Jackson Kayanja in the areas of Masizi, 10 kilometres north-west of Boga in Ituri Province.

According to Maj. Katamba, the joint forces will continue to pursue the ADF terrorists in all four sectors operated by Operation Shujaa.
