National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi has revealed that authorities in Isingiro District have canceled their planned rally in Isingiro town due to a lack of prior communication with the police.
Kyagulanyi said the authorities blocked their rally because they never communicated on time about their planned venue.
Speaking to journalists in Mbarara City on Friday, July 19th, 2024, morning, Kyagulanyi revealed that they have only been allowed to have a radio talk show on Isingiro FM.
“We were to have a rally in Isingiro town today Friday, but we received a call from the venue managers of the cancellation of the rally, saying that we never communicated to the police on time about our rally,” he told journalists.
“We, however, have successfully had our intended rallies in Bushenyi Ishaka, Rukungiri, Ntungamo, and Bundibugyo because we asked the police earlier.”
NUP Secretary-General David Lewis Rubongoya said the authorities would allow the rally only if they communicated on time and followed the right procedures.
Kyagulanyi said they intended to return to the places they had been blocked, after following the right procedures.
“We intend to return to those areas that we have been blocked from meeting the people to have our rally, and next week, we will be in Bugweri, Pallisa, and the surrounding areas,” Kyagulanyi said.
NUP, one of the opposition parties in the country, has been on a western regional tour, which began in Bundibugyo, then Bushenyi-Ishaka, Rukungiri, and Ntungamo and was concluded with Isingiro District.
