As the National Resistance Movement Party (NRM) prepares to update their register nationwide tomorrow Wednesday, March 13th, registrars have been warned against taking bribes from politicians during the exercise.
According to Ronald Ndawura the Luwero district NRM chairperson, materials and yellow books to be used in the 18 sub-counties have already been delivered ahead of the exercise.
Ndawura complained about those members who registered non-NRM supporters causing wrong results.
“If you put people who are not NRM members in the register, it is going to complicate the whole idea of registering NRM members. First of all, it will give us the wrong candidates. Secondly, it will jeopardize all the institutions of registration, which was intended in good faith, “Ndawura noted while speaking to the media.
He therefore called upon all registrars, even members of NRM at the cell and villages, to be very careful about people who are entering in the register.
“Because it will jeopardize the credibility of the register and the whole election process when that time comes if precautions are not taken.”
The registration exercise was launched by President Museveni on February 28, 2024 as part of the NRM party’s electoral roadmap for the 2026 elections.
According to the President, it is good to know the number of party supporters and mobilize for more members into the party.
However, he warned against plans by the opposition to swarm, invade, and distort NRM primaries.
“We should, therefore, not be in a hurry to register people who are crossing; we should only register those people who have had a credible trail of supporting NRM and are backed by the villagers/ witnesses. Leave out those not ours; let’s safeguard our party and its core members,” The President urged.
The exercise will involve displaying and updating the NRM register at every village in Uganda from March 13 to March 17, 2024.
