NRM Officials Urge Greater Luwero Supporters to Update Membership, Commend PDM Success

The NRM Deputy Secretary General, Rose Namayanja, has urged the party’s supporters in Greater Luwero to embrace the update and display of the party membership exercise, which is set to start today, Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Namayanja made these remarks on January 28, 2025, while presiding over a ceremony at the Wobulenzi Town Council to honour President Yoweri Museveni for combating household poverty through the Parish Development Model (PDM) project.

“From tomorrow, the NRM will display its membership register at the villages, go and verify your details,” Namayanja urged adding , “Go and check if your names are in the National Electoral Commission voters’ register, and those who are not registered should register to be able to vote in the coming elections.”

Namayanja stated that students who were at school and those who missed registration during last year’s March update will have the opportunity to register and vote for the NRM flag bearers in the upcoming primary elections.

According to Namayanja, students at school and those not registered for last year’s March update would be able to register and vote for the NRM flag bearers in the next primary elections.

She furthermore expressed her gratitude to President Museveni for improving the welfare of the individuals through PDM funds.

“We put the PDM program in the manifesto in the last term because we have had several government programs like the Youth Livelihood Program (YLP), the Women Empowerment Fund, OWC, NAADS, and Boonabagagawale, but we realised that they were all not very effective because they were being managed from the district, thus bringing them to the parishes for easy access,” Namayanja stated.

“Since time immemorial, no government program has been as successful as the PDM because people are free to decide how to utilise the money to their benefit,” she added.

She, however, criticised the PDM committees’ corruption as the main issue affecting the program and warned that anyone found jeopardising the initiative shall be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Ntulume Lwabye, the Luwero Resident District Commissioner, reaffirmed their commitment to deal with certain PDM Committees that provide beneficiaries with less money.

He appealed to the beneficiaries to utilise the money and return it to the SACCOs for others to borrow since it is a revolving fund.

On July 14, 2024, Luwero District officials were remanded on charges of theft and conspiracy to steal Parish Development Model (PDM) funds.
