The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has started a new campaign to help citizens who do not have National Identification cards (National IDs) get registered.
Osborn Mushabe, NIRA’s Manager for Public Relations and Corporate Affairs, shared the news on X (formerly known as Twitter). He encouraged those without National IDs to take advantage of the mobile registration services that NIRA will provide.
The registration services will be available at the subcounty level, making it easier for residents across the country to get their National IDs. This outreach program will run until November 23.
According to Mushabe, Local Council 1 (LC1) chairpersons will play an important role in notifying residents about when NIRA’s mobile registration teams will be in their areas.
“Please get in touch with the LC1 chairperson or kindly visit the nearest NIRA office,” said Mushabe.
This campaign is part of the Registration of Persons Act Cap 332, which requires NIRA to ensure that all citizens are registered.
The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness about the importance of having a National ID. A valid National ID is necessary for various civic duties and for accessing government services.
NIRA’s nationwide campaign is a significant effort to make sure that all Ugandans are registered and can obtain essential identification services.
