The Ministry of Water and Environment has officially commissioned the Tubur Solar Powered Water Scheme Tubur Solar Powered Water Scheme in Soroti District.
During the commissioning ceremony on Thursday, August 15, 2024, the permanent secretary, Alfred Okot Okidi, represented by Eng Joseph Oriono Eyatu, expressed gratitude to key stakeholders, including the African Development Bank for funding the project.
The facility, which includes a pump station, eco-san toilet, guard house, water office, solar panels, and a demo farm, has the capacity to provide safe water to over 4,000 residents in three parishes, aiding local farmers in mitigating the impacts of climate change.
In his remarks at the function, Eng Francis Rwezahura stressed that the government is committed to providing clean water to the residents of Soroti, and that on August 16, 2024, the ministry of water and environment will hold a site meeting to discuss the ongoing construction of the Manafwa town council water supply system with a capacity for 23,239 people.
According to Edoru Simon Peter Ekuu, the District LC-5 Chair, the project aligns with other ongoing efforts in the region to improve irrigation and water management for sustainable agricultural practices, which will significantly boost people’s livelihoods by ensuring that there is always enough food on the market.
This initiative is part of a broader national strategy to enhance water infrastructure and ensure water security across Uganda.
