Brigadier General Ssekiranda Mwanje, the client Chief of Staff, Reserve Force, has challenged the incoming Director of Sports in the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) to develop a clear sports strategy that will drive sports to greater heights in the Forces.
He made the call as he presided over the handover of the office of the Director of Sports from Colonel JM Ssemanda to Lt Col JA Kulu at the Land Forces Headquarters, Bombo, where he represented the Joint Chief of Staff.
Brig Gen. Mwanje commended the outgoing director, Col. Ssemanda, and said that he has left a clean record as a director of sports. He challenged the incoming director to pick up from where he left off and improve the department even further.
“I call upon Lt Col Kulu that his appointment as Director of Sports is a big task that requires coordination, teamwork, and cooperation, and I pledge the strategic leadership’s continuous support and guidance to the Directorate to make a positive impact,” Brig Gen Mwanje pledged.
Col. Deus Taremwa, the Chief of Education, Sports, and Culture, thanked Col. Ssemanda for having diligently served as the Director of Sports and said he has left a foundation on which the incoming director will build.
The outgoing director, Col. Ssemanda, thanked the Joint Chief of Staff for the support rendered to him during his tenure.
He also thanked the staff of the directorate for their support and team spirit. He expressed confidence in the competence of Lt. Col. Kulu and urged the staff from different disciplines, such as football, basketball, handball, volleyball, kickboxing, athletics, and boxing, to cooperate with the incoming director and to professionally guide any adjustments.
The incoming sports director, Lt. Col. JA Kulu, thanked the leadership for the confidence bestowed on him to hold the position.
He thanked the outgoing director and promised to work diligently in the execution of his duties as the Director of Sports.
The function was attended by Staff Officers from the Chieftaincy of Education, Sports, and Culture.
