The leadership of Nansana Municipality has embarked on a door-to-door community mobilisation aimed at reducing the increasing criminal activities in the area.

On Sunday, July 14th, 2024, the local leaders held a security meeting at Nansana municipal headquarters to draw strategies against the vice.

During the meeting, Regina Nakkazzi Bakitte Musoke, the Mayor of Nasana Municipality, expressed concern about the increasing criminal activities, especially in Gombe Division.

Nakkazzi added that Gombe Division has the highest crime rates due to several gangs found in every village.

“The B12 gang is the most notorious gang in Nasana and a serious problem that needs to be handled immediately. The gang is disrespecting our women through rape and defilement, whether old or young,” Nakkazzi revealed.

She called for unity and coordination among local leaders, including local councilors and village defense secretaries, to end the ongoing insecurity in the area.

Joseph Kizito, the defense secretary of Nabweru North village, blamed some area councilors for protecting suspected criminals.

He noted that the police, together with the local leaders, have launched security operations to harvest the criminal gang members terrorizing the area.

“Most parents of these juveniles are often conspiring with councilors to block their arrests and even resort to using different social media platforms to tarnish our names by painting us as corrupt people who only want money to release their kids, yet it is not true,” said Kizito.

Police and the army recently launched joint 24-hour security operations to counter the increasing number of criminals within the city.
