Nalukoola Threatens Legal Action Against  LOP’s office Over Shs100m Bribery Claims

Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Elias Nalukoola, has threatened to take legal action against the office of the Leader of the Opposition (LOP) over claims that he received a Shs100 million bribe. The accusations are linked to the recent passing of the controversial 2024 Coffee Amendment Bill.

Nalukoola, who just entered Parliament after winning the Kawempe North by-election, strongly denied the allegations. He described the claims as baseless and absurd, pointing out that he has only been in office for a very short time.

“How can someone who has been in Parliament for less than two weeks receive Shs100 million as a reward?” Nalukoola questioned.

As both a lawyer and legislator, Nalukoola emphasized that he would not tolerate what he called misinformation. He said he is considering legal action against the LOP’s office for spreading false and damaging information.

“I will not allow such false claims to go unchallenged. I’m exploring legal options to hold the LOP’s office accountable,” he said.

These developments follow comments made by the Leader of Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi, who recently stated that there were widespread rumors about Members of Parliament, especially those from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and some from the Opposition, receiving Shs100 million in appreciation for supporting the bill.

“We’ve heard that MPs, particularly from NRM and some in the Opposition, are being given money for passing the controversial Coffee Bill. The information reaching us suggests each NRM MP is receiving Shs100 million. If any of our Opposition members are involved, we will take disciplinary action,” Ssenyonyi warned.

Nalukoola, known for championing human rights and the rule of law, was officially gazetted as MP on March 24, 2025, following some delays.

His quick and firm response to the bribery allegations shows how serious the issue is and highlights the pressure Parliament faces to maintain its integrity amid growing public concern over corruption.
