President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has emphasized the need to strengthen regional trade to spur prosperity for all, including strategic security for the African people from all threats.

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, while delivering the 2024 State of the Nation Address at Kololo, President Museveni further noted that we should take advantage of African brotherhood to achieve prosperity.

“We need Uganda, we need East Africa, and we need Africa because if they buy what we produce, we are going to be prosperous, it is because we need them for your prosperity and other issues aside,” said President Museveni.

According to Museveni, prosperity comes from everyone engaging in the sustainable production of goods or services and selling them to maximize profit.

He stated that individuals cannot work effectively alone, therefore, the various zones of the country are encouraged to specialize in products or services and sell or buy what they do not produce.

“When wealth creators become serious about production and increase the production of goods and services, the internal market is no longer sufficient; we need the East African, African, and global markets,” noted the President.

President Museveni recently met with Kenyan President William Ruto, where they discussed trade barriers on Ugandan goods and the removal of common market protocols to allow free movement of goods between East African countries.
