President Museveni Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and top historicals of the National Resistance Movement have commended the former Chief of Defense Forces Gen. Aronda Nyakairima for enhancing army discipline during his tenure in office.
This was during the first Kampala Defense and Security Expo 2024 that kicked off on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, and will run until September 12, 2002, under the theme “celebrating the life of Hon. Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, a paragon of revolutionary sacrifice, Pan-Africanism, courage, and an accomplished freedom fighter”
The event aims to celebrate the life, legacy, and achievements of the late Gen. Aronda who passed away on September 12, 2015.
While officiating at the event being held at the Munyonyo Common Wealth, President Museveni said late Gen. Aronda had a strong understanding of the NRM’s four ideological principles and three historical missions as Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
“Gen. Aronda worked closely with disciplined Political Commissars who understood community relations. His insights guided military operations in South Sudan, Congo, and Somalia,” said President Museveni.
According to President Museveni, Gen. Aronda excelled in ideology, discipline, and management skills and also initiated the Wazalendo Sacco.
Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, an NRM historical, and the Security Minister described late Aronda as a soldier whose vision was well encapsulated in his tour of duty.
“Today, we convened to honor the indefatigable late Gen Aronda Nyakairima – a soldier whose vision was well encapsulated in his tour of duty. Comrade Aronda was a disciplinarian, result-driven, brave leader who profoundly touched and changed countless lives within the army,” said Maj. Gen. Muhwezi.
Gen. Henry Tumukunde, a retired NRA bush war fighter said Aronda was an unwavering patriot who dedicated his life to serving Uganda and Africa.
“Today, I’m honored to reunite with the NRA and UPDF family at the Kampala Defence & Security Expo 2024, held in the memory of Comrade Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, an unwavering patriot who dedicated his life to serving Uganda and Africa,” said Tumukunde.
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defense Forces, urged officers to emulate the life and legacy of the late Aronda who dedicated his life to the country.
“We want to inspire the young officers and men of the UPDF to follow the example of great heroes like General Aronda,” said CDF Muhoozi.
During the commemoration, military wares were exhibited, which included portraits of the late Aronda, military hardware, war vessels, quality furniture, and engineering solutions.
Other top retired UPDF senior officers including the former Inspector General of Police, Gen (Rtd), Kale Kaihura, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala and many others attended the event.
