President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday, November 8th, 2024 kicked off the wealth creation mobilization tour of the Bukedi sub region.

With the aim of mobilizing both the residents and local leaders to embrace messages on wealth creation strategies of the four-acre model farming, the President Museveni was accompanied by the Vice President Major (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and the area local leaders.

In Bukoda zone, Kasasira Town Council, Kibuku district, President Museveni toured the piggery and poultry farm of Benedict Loda, a retired primary school teacher who benefited from the government program of the Parish Development Model in 2023.

Loda and his wife, Florence Nawubutone, started a small piggery project while raring the local breed, but when the government introduced the PDM Program, they were advised by the area agricultural extension officer to embrace an improved breed of pigs.

With the support of Shs1million they got from PDM (government), the family immediately sold out all the local breed of pigs that they had on the farm and replaced it with an improved breed.

Loda, who retired after 30 years of teaching, said the introduction of the PDM program was timely, and it reactivated his urge to create wealth for the family.

“In 2023, I bought a pair of improved breeds of male and female pigs, but a year later I was able to expand my farm using the funds from PDM. I have so far sold 15 piglets and was able to use the fund to support the education of my children. PDM helped my family to acquire the improved breed of pigs,” Loda said.

The family was also able to venture into poultry farming courtesy of the PDM program, and currently they have about 23 mature turkey birds. Both the piggery and poultry are being implemented on about two and a half acres of land.

President Museveni, while touring Loda’s farm, urged other Ugandans to embrace the good practices that the retired teacher has adopted.

He offered them a support of Shs10 million to boost their farming activities and also tasked the VP Alupo to extensively discuss with local leadership regarding the government’s plan to establish animal feed manufacturing plants.

The president also toured two other separate farms in Butebo and Budaka districts. On Saturday, November 9th, 2024, the President will meet the local leaders of the region.
