President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has hailed Gen. Caleb Akandwanaho, aka Salim Saleh, the Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation, for promoting the government’s initiative to industrialize the economy.
President Museveni was on Friday, September 27th, presiding over the opening of a trade show at NAPIL Namunkekera Liao Shen industrial park, Kapeka in Nakaseke district.
He credited Gen. Saleh for securing and preserving the land, the land, adding that the land had previously been underdeveloped.
“I want to thank General Saleh and the Chinese investors who have greatly transformed this place from how it was at that time and now having over 30 factories,” said President Museveni.
The president also explained how he was invited to buy the same land in Kapeka but declined because he knew it would be preserved and be useful in the future
“General Saleh, who bought the land from East Mengo many years ago, wanted me to come and farm in Kapeka, but I said to him, Let me buy land somewhere and keep the land for future use, and now you can see,” he said.
The Minister for Luwero Triangle, Alice Kaboyo, also praised General Saleh for his great input in making Kapeka the industrial park that it is now.
“We can’t celebrate this park without mentioning the name of General Saleh, and we thank him for his vision and for inviting more investors in Kapeka, and we know many are still coming,” Kaboyo said.
The two-day trade show and bazaar will end on September 28, 2024, and has seen many investors showcase products mostly made in Uganda.
Kapeka Industrial Park is home to 21 already-finished industries, and 9 are yet to be commissioned.
The factories manufacture a range of products such as textiles, furniture, agricultural inputs, and ceramics, among others.
