President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has congratulated his Rwandan counterpart, President Paul Kagame, on his victory in the recent national elections.
The president, in a statement released on his official X account on Wednesday, July 18, 2024, expressed how he is looking forward to collaborating with Rwanda in terms of peace and prosperity.
“Your Excellency, Paul Kagame, I wish to congratulate you and the RPF party on the victory in Rwanda’s national elections. Your re-election is a testament to the trust and confidence the people of Rwanda have in your leadership,” President Museveni said.
President Museveni noted that Uganda recognizes Rwanda as a strategic ally with a shared vision of peace and prosperity.
“I look forward to collaborating with you for the benefit of our nations and the East African Community,” said the President.
Kagame was declared the winner of the July 15, 2024, national election after recording 99% of the votes, while his closest rivals Frank Habineza and Philippe Mpayimana received less than 1% each.
Reporters who closely followed the election say that this was the first time in the history of Rwanda that voting for both the Presidency and Parliament was held on the same day.
President Kagame is extending his rule, which began in 2000 after the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Many stand watching and hoping for the peace and prosperity of Rwanda, which had been hit hard by atrocities given the history of the small East African nation.
