President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Pius Perry Biribonwoha as the new Solicitor General of Uganda, effective October 15, 2024.
This appointment promotes Biribonwoha from his previous role as Deputy Solicitor General, a position he held since March 2022. Biribonwoha replaces Francis Atoke, who has retired from civil service after reaching the mandatory retirement age.
His prior experience includes serving as the General Counsel for the Parliament of Uganda and Director of Legal and Legislative Services from 2008 to 2019, contributing over 20 years of legal expertise in various capacities within the Ugandan legal system.
Biribonwoha’s appointment was confirmed by Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, who welcomed him to the Attorney General’s Chambers, highlighting the continuity of leadership within the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
As Solicitor General, Biribonwoha will play a crucial role in supporting the Attorney General and overseeing various legal matters, including civil litigation and advice on civil law matters.
This development is seen as a significant move to strengthen the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, and Biribonwoha’s expertise is expected to bring valuable insights to the role.
