The Kibuli Muslim faction leader Supreme Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Galabuzi has urged the Muslim community to recognize the Kibuli faction as a legitimate grouping rather than a sect, emphasizing its well-structured leadership.
In a media interview on November 21, 2024, in Kampala, Galabuzi highlighted the necessity of acknowledging the organized leadership of the Kibuli faction saying that this will foster unity and enhance understanding of its significance within the broader Muslim community.
According to Galabuzi, the Kibuli faction structure includes grassroots organizations like Juma Mosques, as well as Muslim Districts and Regions, with the Kibuli Headquarters serving as the central authority across 58 Muslim districts in Uganda, which are officially recognized by the government.
Galabuzi dismissed recent remarks by Sheikh Shabaan Ramadhan Mubajje, the Mufti of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), and criticized his attempts to foster Muslim unity through prominent businessman Hamis Kigundu.
He further remarked that trust in Mubajje and his associates has been lost due to past incidents involving the sale of Muslim properties, particularly land, during Mubajje’s tenure.
Galabuzi also cautioned the Muslim community against accepting any plans proposed by Kigundu and Mubajje to align with them, reinforcing his commitment to maintaining the integrity and independence of the Kibuli faction.
