The Uganda People’s Defence Forces have been applauded for their active collaboration with the local community.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Regional Cooperation), John Mulimba, while launching a series of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiatives in the Busia district on August 5, 2024, during an event held at the Red Cross Busia Health Centre IV, credited the military for enhancing community engagement.

Minister Mulimba said the initiatives, which focus on environmental improvements, will culminate in a Thanksgiving ceremony scheduled for August 9, 2024, with the attendance of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

“These CIMIC activities are a precursor to the President’s visit and showcase the commitment of our joint security forces to community involvement,” he stated.

Col. Robert Rutainama, Cantonment Commander of Rubongi Military Barracks, who represented Maj. Gen. Don William Nabasa, the 3rd Division Commander, emphasized the forces’ commitment to further civil engagements with the community.

“Our goal is to give back to the community, prevent disease outbreaks, enhance sanitation, and promote unity, reinforcing our longstanding partnership with the people,” he said.

Wandera Suzan, the Deputy Mayor of Busia Municipality, expressed her appreciation for the security forces’ collaboration with civilians.

The week-long activities will include public hygiene and sanitation projects in urban areas, markets, health facilities, and various sports events, such as football and netball, throughout Busia District.
