The State Minister for Lands Dr. Sam Mayanja, has ordered the Police to arrest land grabbers evicting bibanja holders from their land in Kamengo, Mpigi District.

This was during a visit to Mpigi District, where residents raised their fear of being homeless if the evictions are not stopped.

Police was able to arrest five suspects after they were spotted by residents.

He then ordered the RDC and Police to arrest more perpetrators of land eviction and also give protection to bibanja holders.

“No one has the right to evict residents from their land and if anyone threatens to, they should be arrested with immediate effect,” Mayanja said.

“People evicting owners of land should be sanctioned through the Director of Public Prosecutions office, taken to court and charged,” he added.

Residents appealed to the Minister to stop the tractors the land grabbers are using because they are destroying their food and houses.

Mayanja also visited the land in question and directed that the tractors used to destroy people’s food be left as exhibitions for the court.

This follows President Museveni’s directive stating that no evictions should occur in a district without the involvement of the District Security Committee, led by the RDCs, after consulting the Minister of Lands.
