The Masaka Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Hudu Hussein, has condemned opposition party National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders in Masaka City for unending fighting that has affected service delivery to residents.

Speaking during a media interview on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, Hudu noted that leaders drag internal party disagreements into the management and implementation of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government to develop Masaka into a modern city.

However, RCC Hudu expressed disappointment in the NUP leadership for failing to deliver on their mandate at the expense of the voters and vowed to meet the city security committee to forge the way forward.

“We’ve had enough of the clashes between the leaders of the NUP. It appears they’re done battling amongst themselves; they now want to frustrate the development of Masaka,” Hudu said.

Michael Mulindwa, the Nyendo-Mukungwe Division Mayor, agreed with the RCC and blamed fellow NUP member, Masaka City Mayor Florence Namayanja, for failing to maintain hygiene and trade order and enforcing tax rules in the city.

Mulindwa also accuses Namayanja of incompetence due to her failure to implement Masaka City council resolutions over the divisions she has with her council and her lack of will to work with all division mayors, which has largely affected service delivery.

NUP has majority councilors in both Masaka City and the two division councils of Kimanya-Kabonera and Nyendo-Mukungwe. Unfortunately, they are divided between the supporters of NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and his chief rival, the party deputy president in the Buganda region, Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, who also doubles as the Nyendo-Mukungwe MP and Commissioner of Parliament.
